“The true art of obtaining new customers is developing an unwavering connection with the people that need your business”
- Sue Henry
To attain the best results from your marketing efforts you must view marketing as a integrated collection of business activities that work best together to attract your ideal customers.
It must not be viewed as a sometimes activity. Here are five things to keep in mind for marketing your business:
1. Understand who your customers are and how they think
Traditionally in marketing we talk about “defining our target market” and we leap into coming up generalised descriptions of who our customers are. The thing we forget using this system is that each customer has their own unique personalities and traits. The EASIEST way to understand WHO our customers are and how they think is to identify what FRUSTRATES them and what their VALUES and BELIEFS are. If you have a comprehensive understanding of these three key elements you can better understand what the best way to communicate with them is.
2. Have a plan for how you will communicate with them
If you are not in front of your customers on a regular basis, your competitors will be! Use a simple plan and organise your calendar to track what activities, events and methods you will use to be in front of your customers on a regular basis.
3. Use a mix of marketing methods to express your message to them in the way they need to understand it.
Once you understand the frustrations, values and beliefs of your customers you will also understand how they like to communicate. There are people that still prefer for you to send them your information in the post, pick up the phone and talk to them and for a real person to answer the phone when they call. Using a mix of methods also assists you to reinforce your message to them, so if they miss it the first way they are likely to get it another.
4. Build systems so they will buy from you and refer their friends
Make it easy for your customers to buy from you, offer multiple payment methods so it’s not too hard for them to purchase from you. Include follow up phone calls, emails, letters after they have purchased from you. Reintroduce the “old fashioned” courtesy call.
5. Measure and test everything you do.
That’s it! Keep track of what works, what doesn’t and what you need to do to improve.
